Wainscott WoodsBy Melissa Delihas on August 14th, 2013
This Wainscott shingle-style home was built in 2003. The basement is being renovated to accommodate bedrooms, a media center and a gym. Below the stairs will be a hide away ‘club house’ for the kids. An unfinished portion will remain.
A basement cement wall and window are being replaced to make the area watertight and to provide a means of egress.
Installation of InSoFast panels will provide the ultimate insolation with seamless tongue-and-groove interlocking. Moisture control channels keep the assembly dry and prevent mold. Polypropylene studs are embedded for secure attachment of the drywall panels.
A french drain system is being installed around the perimeter of the basement in case of flooding.
Within the recessed egress wells, the means of egress double as skylights providing a 5 foot by 9 foot sunroom-like nook inside of each bedroom. The large egress well skylights will allow light to fill the room.
